Frequently Asked Questions
Purchased by soft-surface technology leader Crypton, Inc. in 2013, Nanotex is headquartered in Bloomfield Hills, MI with operations across the United States, Asia, India and Europe. To date, more than 80 textile mills worldwide are utilizing Nanotex treatments in products sold by more than 100 leading brands Worldwide.
Nanotex is a leading fabric innovation company providing nanotechnology-based textile enhancements to the apparel, home and commercial interiors markets. Nanotex was founded in 1998, and acquired by Crypton, Inc., in 2013, with headquarters in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and sales operations in California, New York, Hong Kong and India.
Nanotechnology, as defined by the National Nanotechnology Initiative, requires three criteria: Size – technology development at the nanoscale (one billionth of a meter); Ordered Assembly – the ability to control or manipulate the ordered assembly of components at the nanometer scale; Novel Properties – the size and ordered assembly of the nanoscale architecture creates novel properties, i.e., repellency, wicking, stain release, etc.
Traditional coatings make garments feel stiff and clog the weave of the fabric, preventing breathability. Using nanotechnology, our treatments are small enough to permanently attach to individual fibers, delivering superior performance characteristics without compromising the look, feel or comfort of the fabric.
Yes. Nanotex products are engineered to provide exceptional durability and will perform for the expected life of the fabric or garment, even after repeated launderings.
Yes. Since 2006, Nanotex has utilized C6-based technology solutions. In 2010, we took this commitment further by introducing Aquapel, our completely fluorine-free product. PFOA-free denotes that there is no detection of PFOA using the most sensitive testing equipment available.
No. Nanotex conducted extensive testing on all of our products prior to commercialization to ensure the health and safety of the workers who manufacture our proprietary technologies and the consumers who wear products containing our technologies. These technologies have been proven safe in both comprehensive third-party scientific testing as well as in real-world applications as demonstrated by the millions of garments in circulation throughout the world.
Nanotex’s proprietary innovations adhere to the nanotechnology stipulated by the National Nanotechnology Initiative and the Hohenstein International Textile Research Center. Nanotex does not use nanoparticles in any of our textile technologies. Nanotex technologies consist of polymer blends that contain a big molecular main chain and branched chain. The branched chain (nano-sized whiskers) is connected with the main chain (backbone/spine) by a covalent bond, in which the branched chain and main chain are not able to separate by any force. The Nanotex polymer is relatively large and durably bound to the fabric; so it will not absorb into the skin.
No. Nanotex technologies are applied at the mill level during the finishing process.
No. Nanotex does not sell fabrics or garments. Rather, we sell nanotechnology-based textile enhancements to the Nanotex family of licensed mills. In turn, these licensed mills utilize our chemistry to create fabrics with unique and novel properties. Nanotex garments and home goods can be found at many well-known quality retail locations under numerous recognizable brand names worldwide. Please refer to the listing on the Partners section of our website.
Nanotex has a family of technologies, for apparel and home goods, that become embedded in the fabric to improve comfort, appearance, and durability. Our current product line consists of Aquapel, Resists Spills, Releases Stains, Resists Spills & Releases Stains, Dry Inside, Coolest Comfort, Odor Neutralizer, All Conditions, Speed Dry and Wrinkle Defense.
Wash the garment as you would any other garment, following the care instructions provided on the manufacturer’s care label. Tumble drying and steam ironing will enhance functionality. Fabric softeners are not recommended.

Yes. Nanotex technologies were consciously engineered to run on industry-standard fabric and garment production equipment, with minimal modification or capital investment required by licensees.
Nanotex technologies can be pad applied in fabric form or can be dipped or spray applied in garment form, or can be exhausted in yarn, fibre form. This process is followed by a normal drying and curing procedure.
Yes. Nanotex enhancements are compatible with heat transfer and screen-printing. Other types of fabric printing would need to be evaluated prior to application to determine success. For details, submit an inquiry via the form on our Contact Us page.
